Hulu came to play!
Proving to be unbothered by a little healthy competition, the video streaming service took a shot at Netflix in their latest advertisement — and Netflix’s response was far from chill!
ICYMI, Hulu took aim by posting:
Streaming only on Hulu. Not on Netflix. Try your free trial today! https://t.co/zSLJeqPY6e pic.twitter.com/4Edc7TqoaQ

Several days later, Netflix fired back using a reference from their hit show, 13 Reasons Why:
Welcome to your tape https://t.co/juAMcd0jjU

On one hand, Twitter users were a bit upset with the company for “trivializing suicidal thoughts.”
See some of the negative reactions (below):
@netflix this isn’t funny??? please tell me “welcome to your tape” isn’t going to be a meme please stop trivializing suicidal thoughts.

@netflix Feel the person at Netflix who is trying to copy the “savage” twitter type post didn’t get the point of their own show #SuicideIsNotAJoke

@netflix Looks like I’m going to only use @hulu where my mental health isn’t trivialized as a joke 🤷🏼♀️ pic.twitter.com/RQZidi5uwS

Meanwhile, others appreciated the debatably genius and relevant marketing ploy:
@netflix LOL. A+ tweet.
